Beginners rides

Wednesday, December 28, 2016

We will be doing monthly beginners rides of approx. 5-15  miles for those new to cycling and all who want to try club cycling for the first time. Rides will be at a slow pace, on quieter country roads with no hills. There will be a Ride Leader to welcome you on every ride  so you dont have to worry about navigating and can just enjoy the ride.

Here are the top five questions we get asked about joining the club:

Q: Can I join in on a ride?

A: Yes! Just turn up at the start (listed on the calendar page). We are Cycling UK affiliated so you can join three rides at no cost, if you then wish to carry on we would ask you to join Cycling UK. By becoming a Cycling UK member you get automatic membership of our CTC Swale club with voting rights, 3rd party insurance, a bi-monthly magazine, free legal advice etc. To Join Cycling Uk, Click Here.

Q: Is my bike good enough?

A: Yes! If it's rideable, safe and the brakes work then bring it. You may need lights on longer and night rides. It is advisable to have puncture kit, spare inner tube, water bottles and ensure you are wearing appropriate weather condition clothing (you never know).

Q: Am I fit enough?

A: Probably. We do short and long rides, so if you're unsure, start with a short one. On longer rides we usually plan a train home option in case of injury, exhaustion or mechanical problems. We also have easy paced short distance rides on Sundays, suitable for new riders or for those who want to try out club cycling for the first time.

Q: Am I fast enough?

A: Yes. No really, yes. Average speeds are typically 10-12mph, we don't leave anyone behind and if in doubt, we stop for cake.

There will always be an experienced rider at the back of all rides in case of difficulty and to provide support and encouragement.

Q: What does CTC stand for
